Your point is well taken about announcing a project in advance. Quicktags seems different enough from the DokuWiki/TextBar approach that I'm less sure how I would have merged the two. Starting from the DokuWiki toolbar made it really easy, since it already worked exactly the way I wanted (except that it used DokuWiki syntax instead of Markdown or Textile). Had I been smart enough to find QuickTags first, it might have saved me some work. It reminds me a lot of the editing toolbar in WordPress which I also like very much.
